Huey P. Long

Huey P. Long was the 40th governor of Louisiana. Huey P. Long greatly influenced our state. He expanded and paved highways and built several hospitals and schools. He started several programs to help the economy which may have influenced Franklin Roosevelt's new Deal program. Huey Long is known to some as a Dictator, to others a Hero.
Long build several new state buildings. He built a new state capital building and a new Governor's mansion. The mansion looks like the white house, which was propally influenced by Long's plans to become president. The year before he would have ran for president he was assassinated in the state capitol. Dr. Carl Weiss attacked Long though it is unclear whether or not it was Dr. Weiss or Long's bodyguards that killed him.
During the attack several bullets ricocheted off the walls which may have killed him. Dr. Weiss's body was shot over 50 times by his Bodyguards. Later it was argued on whether medical incompetence had been present and he could have been saved. One of the doctors claims that if he had insisted on an autopsy he may have been saved. Long's death stopped most of his systems in that nation but not in the state. Several of his systems are still in place today. Even his campaigning ideas where used long after his death.
