What is halloween

Halloween began as a Celtic(pronounced Keltic) new years eve celebration. They believed that the spititual world would become connected to the physical world on that night so they sacrificed animals and made costumes hoping to scare away the spirits they made a bonfire to sacrificed the animals in.Anyone who was acting weirdly was believed to be possessed and thrown into the fire. The Romans conquered them and turned the holiday into all saints day and was sometimed called all-hollows day and the day before all saint day became all hollows-eve or halloween. The trick or treat came from the celt belief that ghost roamed the streets on halloween so they left treats outside believing that the ghost would not harm them if they were happy they also left their all entrances to their house open to let the spirits come in.

The tradition of carving pumkins was made irish tales of a guy named stingey Jack. They believed that he tricked the devil into buying a drink from him and into promising not to send him to hell. When he died he could not go to Heavan or hell so the devil doomed him to walk around forever with a turnip and a piece of coal and he was called jack of the lantern or in irish jack o lantern. The irish brought this to america and soon found that pumkins where better than turnips
